据中共六大的不完全统计，从1927年3月到1928年上半年，被杀害的人民群众达31万余人，其中共产党员有2.6万余人，而上海的共产党员由8000多人锐减到1000多人，党组织受到严重破坏。

旧址 面貌
“这里紧邻四马路，隔壁是天蟾舞台，楼下是生黎医院，往来人员众多，隐蔽性强。来人可从一楼医院进入，或从汕头路一条隐蔽小弄堂进来，还能从天蟾舞台西侧楼梯上二楼，是一处险中求安的好地方。

1928年秋到1931年4月，中央领导周恩来、瞿秋白、李立三、邓小平、李维汉等经常到这里开会。中央对各地红军发出的重要指示，著名的“九月来信”，就从这里发出。中共六届二中全会、三中全会的准备工作，均在此讨论酝酿。

熊瑾玎为朱端绶写的诗：

“瑾玎对我一往情深。中央组织部长周恩来曾来做我的工作。同瑾玎一起‘生活’了3个月，我看出他是一个品德高尚的人、真心实意的人……从此我和瑾玎携手前进，并肩战斗了45年。”
